Ding Fuzhi (1879-1949) was the founder of the famous Xiling Seal Art Society, along with Wu Changshuo.
Ding Fuzhi started to teach himself how to paint at a rather late age of 46. His favorite subjects included pine trees, plum blossoms, fruits, flowers and people.
His fruit themed paintings were highly regarded and most sought after by collectors worldwide. Summer fruits came alive with vivid, transparent colors and delicate textures.
Ding Fuzhi carried on the Chinese scholarly painting tradition, with an emphasis on calligraphy and seal carving skills. His oracle bone seals on the side of the paintings are visually intriguing on their own.
